MAGSHAPE™: A Smarter Approach to Magnesium Supplementation

Discover the Science Behind Advanced Magnesium Microcapsules

Magnesium is an essential mineral that supports numerous physiological functions, including normal muscle and nerve function, energy metabolism, and the maintenance of healthy bones. Despite its importance, the quality of a magnesium supplement depends not only on the amount of magnesium it contains, but also on how the ingredient is formulated and utilised by the body.

This is where MAGSHAPE™ microcapsules offer an innovative approach to magnesium supplementation.

MAGSHAPE™ uses micronisation and microencapsulation technology to improve the formulation properties and bioavailability of magnesium oxide, offering a science-led approach to magnesium delivery.

What Makes MAGSHAPE™ Different?

1. Improved Magnesium Bioavailability

Bioavailability refers to the extent to which an ingested nutrient becomes available for the body to use.

Different magnesium sources can behave differently in the digestive tract. Research published in the journal Nutrients in December 2024 investigated the bioavailability of MAGSHAPE™ microcapsules compared with magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate and magnesium bisglycinate.

In a double-blind, randomised crossover clinical study involving 40 healthy adults, researchers measured blood plasma magnesium levels at baseline and at one, four and six hours after supplementation.

The findings showed that MAGSHAPE™ produced significant increases in plasma magnesium levels at all measured post-intake time points. It also demonstrated significantly greater bioavailability than non-microencapsulated magnesium oxide over the six-hour observation period.

These findings suggest that MAGSHAPE™'s microencapsulation technology may help improve magnesium delivery compared with conventional magnesium oxide under the conditions studied.

2. A More Comfortable Supplementation Experience

Digestive tolerance is another consideration when choosing a magnesium supplement.

In the same clinical study, MAGSHAPE™ was associated with fewer reported side effects relating to increased intestinal motility and sensations of gastric heaviness compared with the magnesium sources evaluated.

This finding highlights the potential of microencapsulation technology to improve the overall supplementation experience.

Why Does Magnesium Matter?

Magnesium contributes to several essential functions in the body:

  • Muscle function: Supports normal muscle contraction and relaxation.

  • Nervous system function: Contributes to normal nerve function.

  • Energy metabolism: Plays a role in the biochemical processes involved in energy production.

  • Bone health: Helps maintain normal bones.

Adequate magnesium intake is important for overall health. However, the benefits of supplementation depend on individual nutritional needs, the amount consumed and the overall formulation.
